2026 Volkswagen Tiguan vs 2026 Toyota RAV4 near Cambridge, MD

We at Pohanka Volkswagen of Salisbury know that these two models are often cross-shopped with one another, so we’ve decided to put together this comparison article to see how their 2026 iterations stack up against one another. You can expect to understand how each excels in real-world scenarios, offering a more relatable experience than simply comparing specifications across internet browser tabs!
Performance
The 2026 Tiguan is the driver’s choice between the two models, as its standard 8-speed automatic transmission and optional high-tuned 2.0L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine present more gratification than the RAV4’s powertrain. Between instant gear transitions, 268 horsepower, and 258 lb.-ft. of torque, and an optional AWD system, driving through Cambridge will always be an exciting adventure. You’ll have less fun in the RAV4, as it only makes 236 net combined horsepower and 163 lb.-ft. of torque with the assistance of a standard 2.5L 4-cylinder engine and two electric motors. While the RAV4's standard electronically-controlled Continuously Variable Transmission may be slightly more efficient, it isn't doesn't deliver as much driver feedback. Volkswagen’s model offers more of a dynamic drive thanks to its standard Eco, Comfort, Sport, Normal, and Individual settings. Though Toyota’s SUV does offer its own selection of customizable options, it falls short with only SPORT, Eco, and NORMAL settings.
Interior
While both the 2026 Volkswagen Tiguan and the 2026 Toyota RAV4 are wonderful to drive through the Sunburst Highway, the former vehicle’s cabin is slightly more refined than the latter model. That’s mostly due to the fact that the Tiguan is offered with available leather seats, which are more plush than the RAV4’s comparative SofTex1 upholstery. Each entry allows up to three different color variations for its respective chair composition, with Toyota's SUV coming in Harvest Beige, Black, and Light Gray. The Volkswagen Tiguan is offered with Amber Brown, Grigio, and Mistral leather seats, which will all likely gain compliments from your guests while en route to the J. Edward Walter Jr. Park. If those guests are sitting in the back, they’ll be more comfortable on longer trips thanks to 40.2 inches of rear legroom. It’s a bit of a tighter squeeze in the RAV4, as there’s just 37.8 inches of legroom to work with.
Technology
Passenger space isn’t the only thing that’s bigger about the Tiguan, as its SEL R-Line Turbo trim welcomes a massive 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system. There’s a noticeable difference in panel size compared to the RAV4, given that its maximum offering is an available 12.9-inch multimedia monitor. Each SUV will deter boredom on cross-country trips thanks to standard wireless Apple CarPlay®2,3 and Android Auto™4,5 integrations, though Volkswagen’s entry has the ability to blare your song choices at higher decibels thanks to its optional 12-speaker Harman Kardon® premium audio system. While the Toyota RAV4 can produce crisp sound through its available 9-speaker JBL®6 equivalent configuration, it won’t be as immersive as its competitor. “ I absolutely love this dealership. They are super clean, state of the art materials, and usually very quick for things like oil changes! I got there today at 7:00 AM and I left around 9:30. My only issue with this place today was that the mechanic did not communicate to my service writer that my update was taking longer than expected due to a system malfunction. However, Stephen did exactly what he said he would do, he was very polite, very professional, and very understanding of my plight. He accommodated me and gave me a few dollars off for my inconvenience so I am very happy. I drive from Baltimore Maryland to go to this dealership because I have never been to a more professional Volkswagen dealer. I’m closest to the Volkswagen on Baltimore national pike in Catonsville, but I do not like how they operate therefore, I drive to Salisbury for the BEST service. ❤️ thanks again Steven ”
