The crossover SUV style of vehicle has taken off in popularity over the past decade and change. One main reason for this success is its practicality; the machine is really a jack of all trades.

Among crossover SUVs, the three-row Volkswagen Atlas has been a highly popular and successful specimen ever since its introduction. Now, for the 2021 model year, the Atlas receives a tasty refresh. Handsome Redesign

The alterations made to the exterior design on the 2021 Volkswagen Atlas result in a machine that’s even more handsome than before. The grille is more prominent, and features the new, modernized VW logo. Headlights are more naturally integrated, while both the front and rear bumpers have been endearingly reshaped. A side-effect of the redesign is the addition of 2.4 inches to the vehicle’s overall length.

The interior of the 2021 Atlas largely retains what we loved about the 2020 model, adding in a few new welcome touches such as revised controls and a fresh steering wheel that’s delightfully satisfying to use. There’s also now a wireless charging pad located beneath the center stack.

New Features

The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas is the lucky recipient of enhanced cruise control with the addition of stop-and-go capability. An improved lane-assist camera manages to smoothly keep the vehicle centered in its lane. Traffic-sign recognition is also tossed into the driver-assistance technology mix. Other delights found in that special stew include standard automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert.

2021 Volkswagen Atlas SEL R-Line Trim Updates

The most obvious visual updates on the 2021 Atlas have landed on the sporty SEL R-Line trim. The already-unique jawline of this incarnation receives an even sportier flair, an impression that’s helped along by large air intakes cemented on either side of the lower grille. The effect is further enhanced through a smattering of stylized “R” badges, a gloss-black rear diffuser, and huge 21-inch wheels with machined faces.

The sporty looks are backed up by the naturally aspirated 3.6-liter engine under the hood. The trim is available with both front- and all-wheel drive.
